Substantial & Sincere.

Inspired by the aphoristic spirit, Aphor Magazine focuses on work that knows what it wants to say and exactly how to say it.

Aphorism focuses on concise statements that hold a truth. We want work that deals in truth. We believe that both poetry and prose can be a vehicle for different types of truth, and has the capacity to ask and answer some of the same questions.

When starting the magazine, we were inspired by philosophers we admire and their ability to create ideas that stick with you well past the time of reading, and that you can’t help but quote in your daily conversations.

We want work that trusts the reader. We want work that is rooted in personal experience and seeped in tradition. We want work that interacts with the landscape and creates a strong sense of place. We want work that is wise beyond its years. We want work that fearlessly fights ideas the size of lions, and at least leaves a scar.

We noticed that there were very few magazines that catered to philosophy specifically, and we wanted to open a space for philosophical writers to find a home for their writing outside of just the average academic avenues. We want to welcome literary philosophers to submit their work, and actively encourage it.
