Keep and Remember
I know no altar.
I sing no blessing.
Imagine me a God
who could want what my hands can offer,
an Eternal Flame extinguished, bless me
on the cusp of a tarnished promise
anoint me with emptiness and may
my bones never rest
until I am someone else
besides someone’s daughter.
I need no altar.
I author my psalms.
Imagine me a God
who wants more
than the amethyst veins of deep rivers
trickling yellow light up their banks
while sparrows chirp the morning into being
just boarders passing through this plane.
I am my own altar.
I sing my own songs.
