On Assembly

The metal keeps time.
Her hands do not.

Each piece slides
into its next life.

Machine blood:
oil and voltage.

The patterned pulse
of something turning.

The print of her fingers,
grease shaped like a bird.

Outside, trees bloom
without witness.
